New Delhi: The Union government on Tuesday announced India's first-ever National Aero Sports Policy. Riding on the popularism that drones will soon become the next big thing, the government wants to make sure it makes most of the opportunity. Barely a week ago, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022, where he tried his hand a flying a drone. Flying demonstrations to prototypes of Made in India Drone Taxis all were on display at Delhi's Pragati Maidan

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia believes that aero sports have the potential to turn into a big industry in India. No wonder then, he has set the ball rolling by setting up the Aero Sports Federation of India which will be a 4-tier structure headed by the Aviation secretary. The government claims that just a push to Aero sports can create 1,00,000 direct jobs.

Speaking of how the sector can be a job creator, Agnishwar Jayaprakash the Founder & CEO, Garuda Aerospace told ET NOW that people from villages could rather opt for piloting drones and help with agriculture than move to the city to perform blue-collared jobs.

"Why would they choose to be delivery boys when instead they can be pilots at Garuda Aerospace. You can be a part of the techno group and earn from rupees 80,000 to 1,00,000. We will not only create a drone revolution but also a youth revolution and green revolution as solutions will be generated based on inputs of the types of crops, etc...", added Jayaprakash.

Among the sports that will be included are:

1. Aerobatics

2. Aeromodelling and model rocketry

3. Amateur-built and experimental aircraft

4. Ballooning

5. Drones

6. Gliding & powered gliding

7. Hang gliding & powered hang gliding

8. Parachuting (including skydiving, BASE jumping and wingsuits

9. Paragliding & Paramotoring

10. Powered Aircraft

And it's not just the government that is pushing the use of drones. On Monday MS Dhoni who was the brand ambassador at Garuda Aerospace has now become a shareholder in the company. The cricket legend has invested an undisclosed amount in the drone startup which has already bagged 33 anti-drone system orders from the ministry of defence.

"I have always been an MS Dhoni fan, have always been fascinated by him. He is such a good example for rural success stories and I felt when our priority is to empower the youths with drones then there is nobody better than MS Dhoni and he is the epitome of leadership and sincerity" the Founder & CEO, at Garuda Aerospace said.

The drone manufacturers specialize in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Defense, Mapping as well as Wildlife Monitoring and Manufacturing. But it has its eye set on making Garuda Aerospace the "Uber of Drones" in India. It was only recently that we also saw Gautam Adani's Adani Defence & Aerospace enter into a definitive agreement for acquiring a 50 percent equity stake in agricultural drone startup General Aeronautics for an undisclosed amount.
