The Lenovo Legion Go is a Windows 11-based handheld gaming PC that directly competes with the likes of Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally and manages to offer the biggest display out there on a Windows gaming handheld PC.

After two years of development, the launch of this device indicates that Lenovo has its sights on mobile gamers who are dissatisfied with smartphone gaming and are seeking a more capable handheld gaming device.

The Lenovo Legion Go boasts an 8.8-inch QHD+ touchscreen display, which is significantly larger than the 7-inch screens on the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally, and it supports features like Lenovo PureSight, first launched on Lenovo’s gaming PCs.

Lenovo PureSight display technology delivers brighter, clearer, and more detailed visuals than standard displays. We expect this display technology to deliver smoother graphics on the Lenovo Legion Go, especially since it supports up to a 144Hz refresh rate.

Users can configure their Lenovo Legion Go with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with AMD RNDA Graphics. This is an interesting choice, given that benchmark tests demonstrate that the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme outperforms some Intel Core i9 and i7-series processors. According to Lenovo, the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor will deliver “console-rivalling graphics performance” while enabling smart power management on the Lenovo Legion Go.

The Legion Go supports up to 16GB RAM, a 1TB PCIe SSD, and incorporates a micro-SD slot that accommodates up to 2TB of extra storage. A 49.2Wh battery powers the device, ensuring extended gaming sessions on the move. Lenovo asserts that the battery can charge up to 70% in just 30-minutes courtesy of Super Rapid Charge technology.

Like gaming laptops that need to be plugged in during gaming to deliver peak performance, we expect the Lenovo Legion Go to deliver its maximum performance while plugged in. So, we weren’t surprised when Lenovo disclosed that the Lenovo Legion Go has battery protection technology to defend against rapid battery degradation and enhance heat dissipation while plugged in during gaming sessions.

Additionally, the device benefits from Lenovo’s Coldfront thermal technology, which maintains optimal temperatures on the device without throttling the total graphics power (TGP).

The Lenovo Legion Go has two detachable controllers reminiscent of the Nintendo Switch. The controllers feature an integrated trackpad, D-pad, angled mouse wheel, and 10 customizable shoulder buttons. The joysticks have RGB rings for controller pairing notifications. The right controller has an FPS switch beneath it which players can toggle to activate precise aiming during intensive shooter games.

Among other features are dual USB Type-C ports so users can charge the device and keep accessories connected, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and complimentary 3-months Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.

Introducing Lenovo Legion Glasses

Users of the Lenovo Legion Go also have the option of purchasing the new Lenovo Legion Glasses, Lenovo’s Augmented Reality (AR) solution for gamers who want to play on a larger virtual screen. The Legion Glasses facilitate gaming on a larger screen on-the-go or on compatible Windows, Android, and macOS devices.

Once connected via USB-C, the Lenovo Legion Glasses deliver a 60Hz FHD display to each eye and channel audio through built-in speakers. While Lenovo positions this device for both mobile and home use, we believe it will hold more appeal for Lenovo Legion Go users aiming for a more robust mobile gaming setup.

Lastly, Lenovo also launched the Lenovo Legion E510 7.1 RGB Gaming In-Ear Headphones (quite a mouthful). The company disclosed that the new headphones will deliver surround sound, “punchy bass”, and feature a multifunctional controller for audio adjustments during gaming sessions.

Lenovo Legion Go pricing and availability

All three devices discussed in this article are set to launch for sale on Lenovo.com sometime in October 2023. The Lenovo Legion Go will be available at a base price of $699. The Lenovo Legion Glasses will start at $329, while the Lenovo Legion E510 7.1 RGB Gaming In-Ear Headphones will start at $329. There will also be a bundle available that includes the Legion Go and Glasses together.
