Free previews of the Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge virtual reality experience will be held Nov. 21 to Jan. 5 from noon to 8 p.m. daily at the former ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney.

Gamers will get a chance to explore Jedi temples and battle a Guavian Death Gang on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost in a new virtual reality experience in Downtown Disney that expands on the universe created for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.

Free previews of the Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge virtual reality experience will be held Nov. 21 to Jan. 5 from noon to 8 p.m. daily at the former ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney.

The VR action-adventure experience expands on the story of Black Spire Outpost and the world of the “Star Wars” planet of Batuu, the setting for the 14-acre Galaxy’s Edge themed land at Disneyland.

Players take on the role of a droid repair technician turned hero when space pirates attack their ship and they crash on Batuu.

The VR experience visits a workshop in a back room of Droid Depot in Black Spire Outpost and a Jedi-run Temple of Darkness in the wilds of Batuu. Along the way, players encounter Guavian Death Gang foot soldiers who like to shoot first and never ask questions.

Players eventually end up in a Black Spire Outpost bar called Seezelslak’s Cantina, run by a six-eyed Star Wars alien with a tendency for over-imbibing and a love-hate relationship with porgs. Seezelslak, voiced in the VR experience by “Saturday Night Live” alumni Bobby Moynihan, is a natural-born storyteller who regales his patrons with tales about the outer rim village.

In the VR game, Seezelslak’s ship is also his “cantina” — which he has landed on top of Oga’s Cantina, sparking a rivalry between the dueling hives of scum and villainy. The rivalry ended — at least for the time being — when Seezelslak fled Black Spire Outpost before Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland in May 2019.

Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB partnered with Facebook-owned Oculus Studios on the Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge VR experience.

Reservations may be required for the Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge VR experience in Downtown Disney depending on availability. You’ll either be issued a return time or directed to an outdoor queue when you show up at the former ESPN Zone.

VR players must be 13 years or older and are required to wear a face covering while indoors due to COVID-19 health and safety precautions.

Downtown Disney previously had a Disney-backed VR experience called the Void that was shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic and never returned. The Void featured VR titles like Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, Ralph Breaks VR and Avengers: Damage Control. The former Void space is being turned into a pair of retail shops — Pele Soccer and Lovepop.
