It was the luckiest of breaks for India’s Sandeep, who clinched a Bronze medal in the Men’s 200m T44 Final at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi on Sunday.
Sandeep was steadily trailing in fourth position, right outside the medal finishes, when then-race leader Saudi Arabia’s Naif Alamasrahi stumbled, allowing Italy’s Cicchetti and Ukraine’s Kaplun to storm ahead into the first two places.
Sandeep, then-third, kept his steady pace to clock a Personal-Best of 23.60 seconds, to snatch the bronze and add to India’s growing medal tally.
India now have won 20 medals in this Championships so far.
