HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - William Carey University’s College of Health Sciences hosted a career fair for aspiring medical professionals.

The career fair is an annual event that gives students a chance to see what opportunities are available to them.

“We do this career fair every year. We want to be able to connect our health science students, so anywhere from nursing students, physical therapy students, health information management, health administration and education,” said Katrina Pittman, director of the Student Success Center at WCU.

“We want to be able to connect these students to the medical centers and the other employers that are looking for those demographics,” she said.

There were 29 organizations from Mississippi and neighboring states that came to get a glimpse of what the future of health care looks like.

“I think it’s very important for just, number one, the connection, and putting a face with a name. A lot of things that are done is done through technology, so you put your application in and you may never see anybody”, said Brittany Johnson, the recruiting manager at Hattiesburg Clinic.

“But, this interaction here I feel like truly speaks volumes for number one, the people you’ll be working with, and of course, the bottom line here is just making sure patient care is done well,” she said.

Almost 50% of nurses in Mississippi are approaching the age of retirement, and WCU is doing its part in making sure new names are not going unnoticed.
