Sharon robotics teams to showcase robots before international events

The Sharon High School Robotics Team will compete in the Canada Cup in Ontario, Canada, after earning the First Place Sustain Award at the FIRST Tech Challenge Pennsylvania State Championship.

Two robotics teams in Sharon will spend some time Sunday evening showcasing their robots before they compete in international robotics competitions in Canada and California.

An open house and recognition event will take place on Sunday, May 3, at 6 pm to allow teams to speak on their season and demonstrate their robots.

The event will take place at the Case Avenue Elementary School gymnasium and is open to the public.

The Sharon High School Robotics Team will compete at the Canada Cup in Ontario in June, facing nearly 100 teams from around the world.

The team earned its spot in the Canada Cup following its first-place win at the FIRST Tech Challenge Pennsylvania State Championship.

Heading to California, the Sharon Tiger Techs Robotics Team, consisting of students in grades 4 through 9, will compete in the Western Edge Invitational in Long Beach, May 29 to June 1.

The Sharon Tiger Tech Robotics Team advanced to the Western Edge Invitational in Long Beach, California, after earning the Second Place Innovation Project Award FIRST LEGO League State Championship.

The Tiger Techs earned their spot in the State Championship after their performance at Penn State Behrend, where they earned first place overall and achieved the top robot performance score.

Students involved in the robotics teams have earned awards throughout the season and have also held robotics camps to help younger learners interested in robotics.

Sharon robotics students also provided Girl Scout robotics badge training, collaborated with industry professionals and shared their work with a U.S. Representative in Washington, D.C, a news release states.

According to a news release, both teams are supported by community sponsors throughout the Shenango Valley and the Sharon City School District.
