Sandbox VR is continuing its Canadian expansion with the opening of a new venue in Surrey, British Columbia, on February 13.

The location, situated within the mixed-use King George Hub development, marks the company’s seventh venue in Canada and its latest move to meet growing demand for immersive, location-based entertainment.

The Surrey opening adds to Sandbox VR’s existing Canadian footprint, which includes locations in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Vaughan, and two venues in Montreal. Globally, the company reports nearly 150,000 players per month as it scales a mix of corporate-owned locations and franchise operations.

Founded by veterans from the video game industry, including alumni from EA, Sony, and Ubisoft, Sandbox VR has positioned itself as a premium group entertainment concept built around full-body virtual reality. Guests wear headsets, haptic vests, and motion sensors that allow them to see and interact with one another in real time inside shared virtual worlds.

The Surrey venue spans approximately 3,973 square feet and features three private VR rooms, each accommodating groups of up to six players. According to the company, the experience is designed to be social from start to finish, with personalized highlight videos generated after each session that guests can replay and share.

“We are thrilled to continue our expansion across Canada,” Steve Zhao, CEO and founder of Sandbox VR, said in a press release. “This new venue reflects the growing demand for immersive entertainment experiences enjoyed with friends, and we’re excited to add Surrey to our growing global footprint.”

Local franchise owner Jebin Mathew said the Surrey market aligns closely with Sandbox VR’s target audience.

“Surrey is one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most diverse cities, with a vibrant community of families, students, and young professionals seeking new and exciting experiences,” Mathew said. “Opening within the bustling King George Hub, an emerging center for transit, dining, and entertainment, Sandbox VR is uniquely positioned to become a new social destination for Surrey residents and visitors alike.”

At launch, the Surrey location will offer access to Sandbox VR’s full slate of immersive titles, including licensed experiences developed in partnership with Netflix. These include Stranger Things: Catalyst, which places players inside Hawkins National Laboratory and the Upside Down, and Rebel Moon: The Descent, created with director Zack Snyder and set within the Rebel Moon universe.

Other available experiences include Deadwood PHOBIA and additional entries in the Deadwood series, Squid Game Virtuals, Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, Curse of Davy Jones, Amber Sky 2088, and UFL: Unbound Fighting League.

To celebrate the opening, Sandbox VR is offering a limited-time 30% presale discount for the Surrey location using promo code KGH30 through February 12. With sessions expected to fill quickly ahead of the grand opening, bookings are now available via the venue’s official website.
