SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Sandbox VR, an immersive virtual reality experience, has opened in Sacramento's Downtown Commons, right outside the Golden 1 Center.
Players strap on sensors to their arms and legs and play in one of several virtual worlds, some based on video games and TV shows.
"This is the most amazing concept. You turn into a completely different avatar from head to toe and you're playing all kinds of games," said David Friedman, head of real estate at Sandbox VR. "We have a partnership with Netflix, so we do Squid Games and we do Netflix, it's really, really fun."
One of those virtual worlds includes the "Upside Down" from the show "Stranger Things," which is set to release the first part of its fifth and final season later this month.
If that world is a bit dark for younger players, there are also options for more family-friendly entertainment.
"It's really for all ages," Friedman said. "We're a great place for families, we're a great place for date night. We get a lot of people in their 20s and 30s coming out, especially if they're going out after the [Sacramento Kings] game and coming in, and playing these games. They're a total blast."
It takes four to six people to play, and reservations can be made online.
