How likely would it be for senior center patrons to use virtual reality?

Virtually impossible?

Think again.

A workshop this week at Riverside’s Janet Goeske Senior Center let them do just that.

In a session sponsored by AT&T and the Texas-based Mynd Immersive, older residents learned Tuesday, Sept. 1, about VR — and even donned signature VR headsets.

At AT&T’s Connected Learning Center, they enjoyed several virtual experiences: a trip to the zoo, a journey to the International Space Station and the vantage point of a skydiver gliding in a wing suit.

For older residents, VR brings the possibility of cognitive exercises, immersive experiences and therapeutic activities, a news release states.

The Riverside learning center offers weekly free or low-cost classes for older residents that involve technology training, health and fitness and other topics.
