Qualcomm Technologies has launched a series of simplified software and management tools as ‘IoT-as-a-Service’ (IoTaaS) digital twin offerings based around its chips and expanded the number of vertical markets it supports

Qualcomm’s IoTaaS offering includes drag and drop deployment with low code development, automated device onboarding and management and streamlined device configuration and customizable user-interface (UI). There are integrated standard operating procedures (SOP) workflows for 30 different markets. It also includes edge-AI and cloud integration to build digital twins using AI camera and LIDAR data.

The vertical markets include healthcare, smart agriculture, education, inspection, as well as now expanding into more traditional IoT applications such as traffic management and asset tracking with customers partnerships.

The offering builds on initial smart city developments announced in December 2020. Qualcomm has been developing an inter-operable suite of software modules with real-time visualization, geo-spatial visualization, and integration of multiple systems and data points. The aim is to use a unified digital infrastructure as the master systems integrator, decision support system, and operations control centre with a single, integrated software tool to control use-case planning, allocate resources, communicate with users, receive event notifications, and view real-time data and analytics.

However Qualcomm has not detailed the cloud and AI integrations for the service, which is a key resource but will vary from customer to customer and from market to market.

Inspection as-a-Service provides the ability to detect incidents on construction sites and deploy roof top inspection, safety and security missions as a first responder, provide emergency response and support for natural disasters. This was developed with FlightOps, which has ported its FlightOps Drone operating system to Qualcomm’s Flight RB5 5G Platform chipset for inspection services.

Smart Asset Management as-a-Service delivers highly specialized solutions for supply chain visibility, transforming the asset management experience by improving tracking, compliance, and efficiency with Tag N Trac.

Traffic Management as-a-Service provides a different way to plan, control, and adapt the flow and movement of traffic on city streets and improves the commuting and driving experience for all road users, traffic signal optimization for reduced congestion and improved safety, and event and emergency notification and pre-emptions with NoTraffic.

Smart Venues as-a-Service uses a lidar-based safety and security system which adheres to the privacy concerns and optimizes the use of space with TheIndoorLabs.

“To directly address the fragmented nature of the IoT industry, our Qualcomm IoT Services Suite offering is helping to bridge the gap for IoT service providers and entities looking to efficiently and effectively deploy smart solutions. In just one year, the offering has grown beyond our expectations, and we are proud of the interest we have attained and the shift in mentality we have driven to meet the needs of smart solutions across multiple industries beyond just smart cities,” said Sanjeet Pandit, senior director and global head of smart citiesa at Qualcomm Technologies
