Preston man on mobility scooter hospitalized after being struck by pickup truck

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Idaho — A 67-year-old Preston man was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after a pickup truck struck his mobility scooter inside a pedestrian crosswalk.

The Idaho State Police responded to the crash at approximately 3:44 p.m. on South State Street, just north of West 1st Street in Preston.

According to investigators, a 62-year-old man from Nibley, was driving a 2003 pickup truck southbound on State Street when he collided with the 67-year-old, who was occupying the crosswalk on his scooter.

Franklin County Fire and EMS transported the Preston man to a local hospital by ground ambulance. Authorities have not released his identity or the current extent of his injuries.

The crash forced the closure of the southbound lanes of State Street for approximately three hours. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Preston Police Department also assisted at the scene.

The Idaho State Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
