As reported by engadget.com.

OpenAI is actively developing a line of AI-powered devices, including smart glasses, a smart speaker, and a smart lamp. The team consists of more than 200 employees working on this project.

The first anticipated product is a smart speaker with an integrated camera, which will allow a better understanding of users and the surrounding environment. According to people familiar with the project, the camera will be able to recognize objects on a nearby side table and monitor conversations near the device. The camera will also support facial recognition, similar to Face ID, enabling users to authorize purchases.

The expected retail price of the smart speaker will range from $200 to $300, and shipments could begin as early as the beginning of 2027.

As for smart glasses, their release is expected in 2028. Regarding the smart lamp – although prototypes have already been worked on, it is currently unknown whether it will reach the market.

Prospects and questions surrounding the new AI-device lineup

The market could be significantly influenced by the integration of cameras and biometric authentication into everyday gadgets, but this also underscores the importance of privacy protection and data security. Developers, as expected, will balance service personalization with responsibility for handling users’ information.
