Odisha's Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj Promotes Fit India Movement Through Heritage Marathon

The Sports and Youth Services Department of Odisha organized the "Aitihya Ganadouda" (Heritage Marathon) in Bhubaneswar as part of the ongoing 'Odia Pakhya' celebrations. The marathon began at the historic Khandagiri caves and concluded at Kalinga Studio Square. (More Sports News)
The event was flagged off by Odisha's Sports and Youth Services Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, alongside former track and field athlete Anuradha Biswal and cyclist Minati Mohapatra. It featured cultural performances and community participation, highlighting a sense of local pride.
Minister Suraj emphasized the significance of the event, stating that the Heritage Marathon was organized to celebrate 'Odia Pakhya.' He explained, "By featuring heritage sites across Odisha, we aim to promote the state's culture and raise awareness about preserving these sites."
He also mentioned that the marathon aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a Fit India, encouraging fitness awareness.
He added, "Beyond the marathon, Odisha is dedicated to engaging with its 4.5 crore Odias, inspiring them to integrate fitness into their daily lives."
On the fifth day of the 'Odia Pakhya' celebrations, the "Aitihya Ganadouda" focused on promoting fitness while honoring Odisha’s heritage. Participants enjoyed cultural performances, traditional Odia cuisine, and shared moments from the marathon through selfies taken at Khandagiri, which were uploaded to the official Odia Pakhya website.
The Odisha government has announced the celebration of 'Odia Pakhya' from April 1, Odisha Day, to April 14, Odia New Year. This 14-day event aims to promote Odia language, literature, culture, and heritage through various programs at both the local and state levels.
