UNION COUNTY, NJ — County and local law enforcement agencies are aware of recurring reports of drone activity in and around Union County and want you to report any you see to the FBI.

Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Union County Chief of Detectives Dr. Harvey Barnwell, Union County Sheriff Peter Corvelli, Union County Police Chiefs Association President David Hart and Union County Director of Public Safety Dennis Burke issued a joint public statement Friday saying they understand the public’s concern about recent drone sightings.

“We are working closely with the FBI, New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness to monitor and investigate this activity,” the statement said. “At this time, there is no known threat to public safety.”

The FBI and New Jersey State Police are encouraging members of the public to report any information related to recent sightings of possible drones by calling the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submittig a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. If you have video, you can upload it directly through the FBI’s online portal.

Mysterious drones aren’t just popping up in Union County. Since mid-November, they’ve been spotted in various towns in North and Central New Jersey. Drones hovering in Branchburg Township prevented a medical helicopter from landing and picking up an accident victim on Nov. 26, according to NJ.com.

On Thursday, Gov. Phil Murphy said on X (formerly Twitter) that he met with Homeland Security officials, state police and members of congress to discuss the reported drone activity.

“We are actively monitoring the situation and in close coordination with our federal and law enforcement partners on this matter,” Murphy wrote. “There is no known threat to the public at this time.”

“We thank the public for their vigilance and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our community,” the statement from Union County officials said.
