SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — There are more drones and aircraft in the sky than ever before.
And, as companies move in to make air travel more accessible and convenient, Utah could see air taxis flying around.
One traveler, who wished to remain anonymous, said she believes airspace is getting overcrowded.
"Not only do I think it's getting over congested, it's dangerous," she said.
Founder and CEO, of FLT Academy, Jason Clark, said people should not be worried.
"Aviation has never been safer even as traffic increases," Clark said. "In my opinion, it's only going to get safer."
Clark said because of new technology and safety features, airspace is less dangerous and crowded than most freeways.
"A lot of people compare air traffic to normal traffic on the roads, where people are condensed to a very narrow two-dimensional surface," Clark said. "We have this massive three-dimensional area that we can go up and down, we can stack, we can move it wide. We don't have to add a new lane, we just have new lanes. It is almost an unlimited area."
Some modern aircraft are also equipped with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast aviation technology that allows pilots to detect aircraft nearby.
Even though some older aircraft are not equipped with this new technology, Clark said aviation is still the safest mode of transportation.
