Mobvoi has added today another device to its smartwatch arsenal. This one is called TicWatch GTH Pro and it comes with Dual PPG Bio Sensors technology that enables advanced insights into arterial and heart health.

For days now, the company has hinted that it will be revealing TicWatch Arty. It turns out that is not the actual name of the device. Instead it is the underlying technology that is built into TicWatch GTH Pro.

As far as looks, this is a square watch, very, similar to TicWatch GTH. Not surprising considering it seems to be an upgrade on the original which has been around since last Spring. That one offers the standard set of fitness sensors in addition to the less commonly found temperature feature that works 24/7.

Now we are getting something a bit more advanced. What’s refreshing is that Mobvoi has come out with something original, so we are not getting another copy-cat device.

TicWatch GTH Pro is an advanced heart health monitor

The most interesting bit about TicWatch GTH Pro is that it features dual PPG sensors (one on the back, the other one on the side). The combination enables the device to provide some unique insights into the wearer’s arterial and heart health.

To measure the wearer’s arterial waveforms, a person needs to touch with their finger the side heart rate sensor. It takes a few seconds to register a measurement, and you need to sit still while the reading is being captured.

In case you are not in the know, arterial waveforms are pressure waves that depend on the strength of the user’s own pulse as blood flows through their body. You are meant to take a measurement each morning.

All the info gathered from the sensors is aggregated in something the company refers to as an Arty score. The idea is to dish out a single metric that quantifies your unique cardiovascular risk profile. This is on a scale between 0 and 100 – and is definitely something we have not seen before. This new functionality comes courtesy of Mobvoi’s recent partnership with Australian-based AtCor Medical Inc, a subsidiary of CardieX.

The feature looks to be quite advanced. The Arty Score integrates several different measurements including:

• The biological age of your heart (“ArtyAge”, or “Arterial Age”)
• Your heart’s ability to provide oxygenated blood to cells based on the body’s performance demands (“eCAP”, or “Exercise Capacity”)
• The load on the heart due to the hardening of arteries (“HSX”).

What’s more, the heart rate measurements are said to be more accurate than on a standard wearable. Apparently, they are medical grade, i.e. as good as those derived by standard ECG-based methods (“TruHR”).

Users are also provided with insights to help improve their heart health. For example, an increase in exercise will most likely improve your heart performance and that will be reflected in your Arty Score increasing. The app spits out trends so you can follow how you are improving as you make healthier lifestyle choices.

Beyond that you get the standard fitness sensors including blood oxygen. The device has a 5 ATM water-resistance rating and the battery is good for about 10 days on a single charge. Here are the all-important specs.
