Meta and the official launch of new accounts and profiles for the metaverse

Meta announced the official launch of new accounts and profiles for the Meta Horizon metaverse, to access the new facility dedicated to VR (Virtual Reality) experiences.

Here is the full explanation directly from Meta:

Mark Zuckerberg’s company, renamed Meta last October, now wants to make its Meta Horizon metaverse independent by introducing new dedicated accounts. Specifically, for new users of Meta VR devices, it will be possible to create a Meta account using an e-mail address, Facebook, or Instagram.

Basically, when you wear the headset for the first time, you will receive a code to use to pair the headset with the Oculus mobile app. From there, you can continue with Facebook or Instagram, or use your email address to create a Meta account.

Of course, using your social account will create a Meta account connected to Accounts Center, which allows you to unlock experiences such as finding Instagram followers to play with in VR and using Messenger in VR.

In contrast, if you use an email address to create your new Meta account, you will have to provide all your personal information. From then on, it will be possible to create the new Meta Horizon profiles.

While it is now possible to access the new account via Facebook, Instagram, or Oculus, from January 1, 2023, however, accessing the virtual space will only need to be done with a direct Meta account login. A minimum age of 13 is required for registration.

Not only that, it is already possible to set up a Meta Horizon profile with a unique username, a name viewable by other users in the metaverse, and the ability to add a personal image as well.

As with social profiles, you will be able to choose whether to leave your Meta profile open for all to see, or keep it private for more control over friend requests and your account.

Expanding to France and Spain as well

Recently, Meta announced that it has expanded the Horizon Worlds metaverse in Spain and France for citizens 18 years of age and older.

These are new steps in its expansion plan in Europe planned for this year, after the app was available by invitation only in 2020, opening in the U.S. and Canada only in December 2021, and reaching the U.K., Ireland, and Iceland in 2022.
