Justice League #67 reveals that there is a new hero on Earth who possesses powers equivalent to Superman, but is not Kryptonian.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Justice League #67, on sale now from DC Comics.

The United Planets is still very much in its infancy in the DCU. It's getting a feel for its reach and influence and as such felt that an elite guard was necessary. This took the form of the United Order, an intergalactic super team comprised of warriors from the various races governed by the United Planets. Justice League #67 (by Brian Michael Bendis, Phil Hester, Eric Gapstur, and Hi-Fi) one of their members, Divineq, is revealed to be a Daxamite, a species known for having an incredibly similar physiology to Kryptonians, thus resulting in her receiving the same powers as Superman when in the presence of a yellow sun.

Not much is known about Divineq as of yet, especially considering she's only had a handful of appearances. That being said, she wouldn't have been selected to join the United Order if she wasn't the best of the best. Divineq describes herself as a Megadaxamite, perhaps explaining her blue skin tone and hair. Her profile explains that she was chosen to lead the Daxam Megaforces because she single-handedly ended a conflict on a moon in Sector 4579. While not much is known about her beyond her record, she has already left an impression across the universe. In fact, it was her idea to form the United Order.

But it is also her species that makes her valuable to the United Order as a whole. The Daxamites are perhaps as close to being Kryptonian as any living being can get. They are very humanoid in appearance, both on the surface and internally as well. But they are also significantly advanced and, like Kryptonians, gain incredible powers when they are exposed to yellow sunlight.

Daxamites are bestowed with roughly the same powers as the Man of Steel, including flight, super strength, heat vision, and invulnerability, and their population continues to grow. This has the potential to make them one of the single greatest threats to the universe should they ever decide to become conquerors.

It's convenient that the greatest weakness of the Daxamites is not kryptonite, but lead. The substance does not occur naturally on their world and as a result, if any of their kind is exposed to it, they become sickened and weak. But unlike Kryptonians, even when the lead is removed from their presence they still suffer debilitating illness and risk death. So while Divineq is one of the most powerful members of the United Order, she also comes with an exploitable weakness.

It makes sense that the United Planets would want their own Superman-level hero, and the Daxamite Divineq fills the role nicely. This not only gives the planetary alliance a powerful warrior loyal to their cause, but also one who can be easily controlled should she ever go rogue.
