In Ivory Coast, the municipality of Plateau in the city of Abidjan and the French company Dassault Systèmes, which specializes in design and modelling software, have just signed a partnership for the digital transformation of this urban area for its sustainable development. The project includes the design of a virtual representation of the town.

In order to meet the challenges of space occupation, demographic flows and urban mobility, the Plateau commune in Ivory Coast is opting for digital transformation in the coming years. The project led by the local authorities will be implemented with the technical support of the French company specialized in design software and 3D modelling (three dimensions).

This approach, which is inspired by the achievements of Dassault Systèmes in the metropolis of Rennes in France and the city of Jaipur in India, is part of the “Eco2 Citizen” policy implemented by the authorities and aimed at the long-term development of the city of Abidjan as the economic heart of Ivory Coast.

“This digital twin of the Plateau is a decision-making tool. It is a digital representation of the city as it exists today and how it could evolve in the future. The mechanism will allow us to make projections, scenarios and estimate the right decisions to be taken for the sustainable development of the town”, explains Raoul Jacquand, in charge of development and partnerships for Africa at Dassault Systèmes.

The Plateau commune is renowned in West Africa for its economic and cultural institutions such as the Saint-Paul Cathedral and the Houphouet-Boigny Stadium. It is therefore a question of allowing a technological approach capable of guiding the choices of urban development for the improvement of the quality of life of its populations estimated at about 10,000 inhabitants.
