Apple is reportedly planning to give users more choice over which AI services they use with Apple Intelligence in iOS 27.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple will allow users to choose alternatives to ChatGPT, including Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, for certain Apple Intelligence features.
Apple already integrates ChatGPT into iOS 26, letting users use OpenAI’s chatbot through Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground when Apple’s own systems need additional help. But with iOS 27, users may no longer be locked into ChatGPT as the only external AI option.

The report says Apple is developing a new “Extensions” system for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. This would allow installed third-party AI apps to plug directly into Apple Intelligence features across the operating system.
According to text reportedly found in internal test builds, Extensions will let users “access generative AI capabilities from installed apps on demand” through features like Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground.
Bloomberg also says Apple plans to let users choose different voices for third-party AI responses within Siri. That would make it clearer whether a response is coming from Siri itself or from another AI system like Gemini or Claude.
The move comes after previous reports revealed Apple had signed a deal with Google to incorporate Gemini models into future Apple Intelligence and Siri features. At the same time, Apple appears to be positioning itself as a platform for multiple AI providers rather than relying on a single partner.
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 at WWDC in June, where AI and Siri upgrades are likely to be among the company’s biggest announcements.
