Hyderabad: India head coach Gautam Gambhir has recently been facing a lot of criticism after India produced some disappointing results in his tenure. Ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka, Gambhir has responded to the criticism, saying he is not much bothered by the ‘outside noise’.

"My job is to win trophies, not views and likes. That's all what I care for. That is the difference between me and everyone. I don't care about views or likes," Gambhir said while speaking with the press ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka starting from Sunday, August 23.

During his tenure as India head coach, the team has lost two home series against New Zealand and South Africa. Also, they were thrashed by Australia down under. The only impressive Test result in his stint was a 2-2 draw in an away series against England.

Gambhir also revealed that his interactions with chief selector Ajit Agarkar involve discussions about the right decisions for the betterment of cricket.

"It's only about how we want to move forward within cricket, what is important and what are the right decisions to make for betterment within cricket. So probably it's only around cricket now, how we see it in the game going forward,” Gambhir stated.

"Rankings do not matter. We are not struggling. Since the England tour, we have played reasonable Test cricket.”

India’s Test record during Gambhir’s home tenure

vs BAN (Home): 2 wins, 0 draws, 0 defeats

vs NZ (Home): 0 wins, 0 draws, 3 defeats

vs AUS (Away): 1 win, 1 draw, 3 defeats

vs ENG (Away): 2 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats

vs WI (Home): 2 wins, 0 draws, 0 defeats

vs SA (Home): 0 wins, 0 draws, 2 defeats

vs AFG (Home): 1 win, 0 draws, 0 defeats

vs SL (Away): 1 win, 0 draws, 0 defeats
