How PetPals is bridging Gaming, NFTs, and Blockchain
SEP 01, 2021
When it comes to the world of digital gaming, something gaining massive traction is pets and virtual animals being digitally incarnated as gaming assets. From the Neopet games of years gone by to Angry Birds that took off (pardon the pun!) in the early 2010s, animals have been a popular feature in gaming for a long time now.
Many times, these animals are bred, grown, and in the case of Angry Birds, used to battle in the most basic of ways. Now, the use of animals in gaming is seeing a seismic shift, thanks to blockchain technology and an amazing blockchain & NFT-based game, PetPals.
Like many virtual pet base games, PetPals is based on its own exclusive universe, Petootie, the continental island in Mystyria. In this fictional world, the characters are intelligent animals that fight for dominance and resources and based on how powerful players’ PetPals are, they can rise to the top and earn bonus resources.
What PetPals does differently is staking the platform’s native token $PAL in “Petboxes” -Staking is a popular feature of decentralized finance platforms and involves committing a certain amount of resources to be locked away for a certain amount of time and rewards to be given later.
There is also the option to stake both the native token and mint PetPals into NFTs for faster character evolution and immortalization of uber-rare collectible characters on the blockchain – forever. For anyone not paying attention for the last 12 months, NFTs, or “non-fungible tokens” are the digital representation of ownership of a specific asset, whether digital or in real life. Essentially, PetPals NFT/Staking model allows users to earn an income both from the NFTs themselves and from the platform’s native token.
Another helpful tool from within the game are the “paintbrushes” which allow users to enhance the physical attributes of the animals and giving both a competitive edge and uniqueness – Which can be minted into an NFT for untold value and riches!
The native token, $PAL, is based on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and even more of the token can be acquired through a number of methods. There is the option of breeding two different PetPals together and producing rare offspring that, in turn, gives each character more tokens. As mentioned, there is the more traditional method of staking $PAL for a certain amount of time that not only gives rewards but evolves the creatures. PetPals can also battle each other for dominance or can fight off foreign creatures in order to earn more tokens.
Mini-games are also available such as beach trips to surf the waves of the PetPals shores, and cooking challenges to earn more tokens. The native token can be purchased via the platform’s early bird offer by visiting https://petpals.io/presale/
There is a lot of overlap between users of blockchain and cryptocurrency and the online gaming world. This is because a lot of the features in both communities overlap. Gamers are already used to trading virtual assets whether it be weapons or characters and this makes adaptability to blockchain and cryptocurrency very natural.
With new trends like staking and NFTs, it makes sense that they would be incorporated into an all-encompassing universe like PetPals’, because not only are they ways to earn digital passive income, but also to provide a verifiable way of leveling up characters and transferring ownership.
This sort of movement that PetPals is pushing only seeks to further expand upon public understanding and interaction with the blockchain and should it be successful, there will be far more benefit beyond just satisfied gamers and dominants virtual animals.
