New Delhi,UPDATED: Apr 26, 2025
Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar was amongst the mentors and coaches named for the upcoming season of the T20 Mumbai League 2025. Along with Nayar, former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will also play the role of a mentor during the upcoming season.
Nayar had an eight-month stint with the Indian team as he joined as part of Gautam Gambhir's backroom setup after the former Indian batter succeeded Rahul Dravid as the head coach last year. However, following India's disastrous Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia, Nayar was amongst the backroom staff who were shown the door, along with fielding coach T. Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai.
Following his sacking from the Indian team, Nayar returned to Kolkata Knight Riders and joined the backroom staff with the defending IPL champions in the ongoing season. The former India assistant coach will now work as mentor of the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals. Mhambrey, who is currently with Mumbai Indians, will serve as the mentor of ARCS Andheri.
The coaches for the franchises include some stellar names in Mumbai cricket. Omkar Salvi (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Rajesh Pawar (ARCS Andheri), Atul Ranade (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East), Amit Dani (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals), Prashant Shetty (Eagle Thane Strikers), Pravin Tambe (North Mumbai Panthers) and Vinod Raghvan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs) were named as head coaches of the respective franchises. Head coach of the Namo Bandra Blasters will be announced later.
The T20 Mumbai League is making a major comeback as they named India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma as the face of the new season.
“As the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), we are committed to promoting and empowering our local coaches and support staff, ensuring they receive greater opportunities to grow and contribute not only to Mumbai cricket but also to Indian cricket. By nurturing homegrown talent, we aim to strengthen the foundation of our cricketing ecosystem and create pathways for sustained excellence,” said Ajinkya Naik, President of Mumbai Cricket Association.
The T20 Mumbai League has served as a launchpad for stars like Shivam Dube and Tushar Deshpande, who have then go on to be household names in the IPL.
