The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) hosted the 42nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle in New Delhi on Sunday, in partnership with the Ministry of Women & Child Development, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and with the participation of Aanganwadi and ASHA workers. The cycling drive saw close to 800 participants.
The event was flagged off by Aanganwadi worker Suman Chauhan from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. It was organised in association with the Raahgiri Foundation, while a rope-skipping demonstration was led by Dr Shikha Gupta.
According to the Sports Authority of India, several sports icons joined the fitness campaign, including Indian women’s hockey captain Salima Tete, midfielder Nikki Pradhan, mountaineer Nisha Kumari, and speed skating world champion Krish Sharma.
Sharing her thoughts, Salima Tete said the initiative was a wonderful way to encourage an active lifestyle and urged everyone to spend at least 20–30 minutes a day on fitness activities such as cycling or exercise. Nikki Pradhan highlighted the growing awareness around personal fitness since the launch of the Fit India Movement, stressing the importance of avoiding junk food and prioritizing health.
Mountaineer Nisha Kumari, who has summited Mount Everest, said she was delighted to participate once again in the cycling campaign launched under the leadership of Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya. She noted the enthusiastic participation of youth in Delhi and emphasized that regular physical activity could help protect against lifestyle-related health issues.
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle programme is spearheaded by MYAS in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat, and MY Bharat, and continues to promote health, fitness, and community engagement across the country.
