Since the world is going digital, Meta keeps insisting that there is no better way to join the parade than creating a digital mini-self. To do this, Avatars have been chosen as the weapon of choice. But is the Avatar notion an advancement or has it just become an obsession?

Meta’s newest venture is to create personalized Avatar covers, reported Matt Navarra, meaning users can not only design their Avatars but their backgrounds as well. This might be a stepping stone towards the metaverse since the backgrounds don’t exist in this world.

The process is simple. You make your Avatar. Get custom-designed backgrounds, or simply make them yourself. Next, you superimpose the Avatar in these backgrounds. It could be places you never visited or places that are not even real in the first place.

Now, how is this related to the metaverse? Since the concept of the metaverse is placed that is not known to the human existence, possibly multiple verses, Facebook is allowing you to place your digital identity in such a place. Your version of a universe that might or might not exist. Isn’t this cool?

Well, it might be cool or it might just be a super complex theory behind not such an innovative idea. Since we have all played Minecraft and Roblox, we are well-familiar with creating our own spaces and making our Avatar come to life in those. Having that opportunity on Facebook covers isn’t exactly the most original idea.

As for the Avatar, Meta announced that they are planning a huge range of activities that will now be possible with the Avatar. How so? Well, the latest change is the new 3D figure that is now available across all Meta platforms. It can also be shared, dressed up, and sent to your friends. But what’s new?

While this might seem like a big change to some users, it does not appeal to older users. Having your Avatar positioned in non-real environments doesn’t get anyone on their toes. The theory behind is pretty innovative, kudos to that. But in real-life applications, we do not see this update going very far.
