Everseen, a retail technology company based in Cork, has opened a new research and development hub in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

Last week, Everseen, founded by CEO Alan O’Herlihy in 2007, also announced it had added an invention lab to its office in the US city of Miami.

The Barcelona office is set to help Everseen attract international talent and serve as a conduit for the company’s growing global workforce.

Speaking about the international expansion, O’Herlihy said: “Everseen is growing rapidly. In part, this is evident in the demand for our AI-powered computer vision platform.”

“We are enabling retailers to be more profitable while delivering a better customer experience. These are benefits that every retailer wants. As a result, we’ve been expanding our R&D function across both Romania and Serbia, and now we are excited to add a new hub in Spain.

“The additional capacity will help us to keep up with customer demand and push ourselves to keep inventing AI solutions for retail and beyond,” he added.

Separately, Everseen, which recorded a turnover of €10.3m in 2019, has been embroiled in a legal battle with Walmart in the US.

As first reported by the Sunday Independent, Everseen filed a lawsuit against the US retail giant Walmart in Arkansas, alleging it stole its technology to build a competing product.

Everseen has developed technology that uses artificial intelligence to improve efficiencies at self-service checkouts, spotting issues like items not scanning.
