We all know Elon Musk and his fascination with humanoid robots, which every AI and robotics enthusiast thinks is the next big thing — and the Tesla CEO predicted we will have a whopping 20 billion humanoid robots in no time.

You heard that right — 20 billion humanoid robots.

That means more than two robots for everyone on Earth.

Now, not everyone will have a team of robots working for them just because Musk said so.

Elon Musk is all-in on humanoid robots

The Tesla CEO unveiled his ‘Tesla Master Plan 4’ at the company’s shareholder meeting last week.

And, of course, humanoid robots took center stage after major Tesla products — you know, cars.

Above all, the latest iteration of the Master Plan focuses on autonomous cars and robots.

The EV maker is making its own humanoid robot — the Tesla Optimus.

Although Musk talks about it almost every week, we’ll provide some context if you’re not familiar with it.

Optimus first came out in 2021, with the first prototype out of the factory in 2022.

Its latest version from 2023, the Gen 2, featured improvements over the prototype and made it capable of performing many ‘useful’ tasks.

Now, Elon Musk believes that Optimus will help Tesla become a $25 trillion company.

It certainly seems ambitious, but it looks like he firmly believes in the idea.

Two Optimus robots are already working at the Tesla factory, with more to follow.

Speaking more about these robots at the shareholders’ meeting, Musk revealed the number of such machines it plans to produce every year.

The number is massive, to say the least.

Tesla plans to send out a billion robots per year, hoping to have a 10% share of the entire market.

Several other players are in the humanoid robot race too, and the world’s most valuable company, Nvidia, is also spending a great deal on developing humanoid robots.

Further, Elon Musk said, “Let’s say the production rate is probably something like a billion humanoid robots a year. If Tesla has a 10 percent share of that, it might be a lot more than 10 percent, we could make about 100 million Optimus units a year.”

Continuing with more ambitious numbers, Musk predicts the ratio of robots to humans would be two to one.

That translates to around 20 billion humanoid robots while being on the safe side.

However, these are all one man’s predictions in the end, and we will have to see for ourselves if such robots actually make it to every part of the world or simply fade off.
