MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The CEO of Force Science is speaking out after Shelby County District Attorney Seve Mulroy wrote an opinion column criticizing his company’s police training techniques.

The USA Today op-ed details Mulroy’s takeaway from a week-long Force Science training session he attended in Nashville.

He accused Force Science trainers of mocking de-escalation techniques, citing pseudoscience to justify force, and training officers “to kill.”

Mulroy says instructors failed to identify any improper use-of-force technique.

Force Science’s CEO, Brian Baxter, says Mulroy’s column does not reflect how the company operates.

“To say we mocked de-escalation is inaccurate; it’s a false claim,” Baxter said. “We go out of our way to teach realistic de-escalation for instructors, we teach realistic de-escalation for practitioners, and we spend a whole lot of time talking about communication strategies.”

Others have also expressed criticism of Mulroy’s op-ed, including the Collierville police chief and a group of Tennessee district attorneys.
