CBS Miami to Unveil AR/VR Studio for Sports and Weather

CBS Miami (WFOR) will unveil a state-of-the-art augmented reality/virtual reality studio on March 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The station group said the studio will redefine how sports and weather are reported in the market. Sports anchor Mike Cugno will introduce the cutting-edge technology, marking a new chapter in broadcast journalism.

Later that evening, at 11 p.m. ET, chief meteorologist Ivan Cabrera will deliver live weather updates from the AR/VR studio, followed by an 11:30 PM March Madness segment from the Sports Desk.

Beginning Monday, March 17, CBS Miami’s NEXT Weather Team will integrate AR/VR technology into daily forecasts, bringing an innovative and immersive dimension to weather reporting.

Throughout the NCAA Tournament, CBS Miami will continue incorporating AR/VR-enhanced segments into newscasts, utilizing the March Madness package available to all CBS stations. Throughout the tournament, the bracket will grow upwards highlighting team advancements, key moments, and player profiles.

CBS Bay Area has developed a state-of-the-art AR/VR weather set, along with owned stations in New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Colorado are similarly using AR/VR to enhance weather coverage.
