BCU is one of this year’s sponsors for BTW which runs from 20-24 October 2025 at different locations across the city, including at BCU’s City Centre campus.

One of the biggest events, Frontiers Day (Wednesday 22 October), will see CreaTech Frontiers take to the stage to promote the creative industries cluster, discuss how the West Midlands can become a centre of excellence for the creative economy and support more small companies and freelancers.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase what CreaTech Frontiers can offer, and how the createch sector can grow in a sustainable and collaborative way,” said BCU Professor Lamberto Coccioli, Director of CreaTech Frontiers.

“Birmingham and the West Midlands can become an internationally recognised hub for createch, and events like this are vital in creating a space that gives people the chance to experiment and flourish.”

The same day will also see how creative technologies and the STEAM concept are being incorporated in research, including Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Aural Histories.

This research project has brought medieval Coventry to life through a new app, bringing together history, architecture, music and technology.

BCU’s STEAMhouse will be hosting day four of BTW with the Scale Up Summit. It’ll be a chance for businesses and entrepreneurs to gain advice and network in one of Birmingham’s most innovative spaces.

“BCU is proud to support BTW 2025,” said Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise, Engagement and STEAM, Professor Hanifa Shah. “We will continue to play our part in helping to grow this vital sector.

“We are doing this by placing inclusive, ethical, and sustainable innovation at our core, and reducing barriers to R&D through projects like CreaTech Frontiers, for creative companies to experiment, test and prototype.
