Streaming services give you TV shows and movies on demand, which means you don't need to wait until 8 PM on a Tuesday before you can catch the next episode of your favorite show. Sometimes, we take for granted how much of a game-changer it is. The only thing is, with so much content, it can be hard to choose what to watch.
Maybe you want to watch a movie that falls into a certain specific genre, like a coming-of-age movie where the main character is a boy growing up as part of a struggling family, with a happy ending. That's very specific, but with AI search on Fire TV, you might be able to do just that.

With the wealth of content available on streaming services, it can be hard to figure out what to watch. For instance, you might want to watch a horror movie, but the crime movie section doesn't show anything that tickles your fancy. Perhaps what you're looking for is a crime thriller that takes place in the 80s and involves a culprit who gets away with it until the very end.
Well, it's 2024, the year of consumer-facing AI, and now, you can do exactly that. Simply access Alexa on your Fire TV device and describe the kind of movies that you want to see and you'll get the best available results that meet your criteria. Think of it like talking to a cinephile friend who has watched almost every single film that is available on all major streaming services.

What's cool is that it isn't always about describing the genre of the film, but you can even use the AI search to ask about movies containing iconic lines, like “Show me the movie with the line, ‘Here's looking at you, kid.'” and boom, up comes Casablanca. Maybe you just want to watch a movie with a lot of cat and dog shenanigans. You can tell the AI that too.
Generally speaking, this might be one of my favorite AI additions to any platform, as I can actually see this getting a whole lot of use on a daily basis, especially since it is integrated with Alexa on Fire TV which brings the convenience of voice control.

The average streaming service's search bar understands two things: titles and genres. You can't tell it the kind of movie you're looking for so if you're trying to find something new that hits a specific spot, it's really tough. Nielsen's 2023 State of Play report says that people spend more than 10 minutes trying to choose what to watch (honestly, it feels longer than that sometimes).
This might be the change that we've needed to make getting the right content smoother than ever because now you'll be able to tell your search bar what you want, in a more conversational manner. This feature will work not just on Prime Video, but will also be able to check the library on other streaming services.
